Afro Baby Books & Bibs

Welcome to Gloarts ‘Materialized’ textile stay-clean products made by Gloria Ojulari Sule. Baby’s first books and bibs are soft objects made with recycled Dutch Wax prints and other Afrocentric textiles appliquéd onto calico. Each quilted book is approx.10x10cm. The products are treated with an invisible protective surface that will keep them in good condition, fresh, clean and hygienic even after repeated use. Other stay-clean Afro textile products include bags, bunting and pot-holders.

Source Materials

The west Norwood Sunday Market, May was a success with new customers and interest in my products and in the stay-clean aspect.

The liquid repellent surface is anti-bacterial and just needs a quick rinse under running water in the event of spillages. No detergents and machine washing needed.

Many of the fabrics I use for the books are my own recycled costumes never to be worn again or restyled leaving several large sections of waste materials, but lately I have also been using off-cuts glean from the floor around the floor of a tailor in Peckham. It’s fun collecting these as I never know what fabrics will turn up and subsequently inspire ne designs. The educational baby books & bibs collection has several design categories including African animals, reptiles and insects. There are also numbers and the alphabetic.
